Fire License Registration in West Bengal

India experiences approximately 25,000 fire-related incidents annually, many preventable through proper safety measures. A state-issued fire license helps ensure business premises are fire-resistant and comply with established regulations.

In West Bengal, fire license issuance is governed by the West Bengal Fire Service Act of 1950. Buildings exceeding 14.5 meters in height must comply with fire safety regulations endorsed by the Deputy Director of Fire Services and the Director-General of Fire and Emergency Services.

Attachments for Application

• Two copies of site plans at 1 cm : 1 meter scale
• Statement naming hazardous materials and maximum quantities
• Statement detailing fire services personnel, qualifications, and safety appliances
• Statement describing building occupancy structure and nature
• Fire Safety Certificate (if required)

Classification of Establishments

• Class A: Buildings above 14.5 meters or exceeding 5000 cubic meters
• Class B: High-risk buildings 7-14.5 meters tall, 2000-5000 cubic meters
• Class C: Buildings below 7 meters or under 2000 cubic meters

Fire Safety Certificate

Certificates ensure buildings are constructed and maintained with essential safeguards, particularly for structures exceeding 14.5 meters. Applicants must submit architectural layouts, occupancy plans, structural plans, and ownership documents.

High-Risk Building Classifications

Section 2 of the Act categorizes nineteen building types as high-risk, including those handling combustible materials, hazardous substances, explosives, hotels, hospitals, shopping complexes, and structures housing multiple dwelling units.
