Choosing and getting your company name approved is the first critical step in registering a Private Limited Company in India. A good name must be unique, meaningful and comply with the Companies Act and MCA naming guidelines.
Name Approval Rules
- The name must be unique and not identical/similar to an existing company or registered trademark.
- It should not contain prohibited or restricted words.
- It must end with "Private Limited".
- It should reflect the business activity of the company.
The Process (RUN / SPICe+ Part A)
- Conduct a name-availability search on the MCA portal and trademark database.
- Apply through SPICe+ Part A (or RUN) with one or two proposed names.
- The Registrar reviews and either approves or asks for resubmission.
- On approval, the name is reserved for 20 days to complete incorporation.
Common Reasons for Rejection
Similarity with an existing name or trademark, use of restricted words, or a name that does not indicate the business activity are the most common reasons. Our experts pre-check every name to maximise approval chances.
